We are interested in spinal rehabilitation of paralyzed patients such as those afflicted with M.S. Specifically, we are interested in evaluating the functional contributions of chemokines (chemotactic chemokines) and their receptors in the initiation and maintenance of inflammation following infection. It seems that these chemokines and its receptors are activated whenever there is inflammation due to disease in the CNS. As such, these chemokines (CXCL10/IP-10) would seem to attract inflammatory cells to the site, thus contributing to the demyelination. The potential implication is that these chemokines and their relevant receptors may be targeted for treatment of Multiple Sclerosis and other neuro-inflammatory diseases [Yes, below are my own photographs I've taken under fluorescence microscopy].
