-This internship project studied the causal relationship between prostatic acid phosphatase (PAcP) and prostate cancer-Developed process flow to purify PAcP from seminal fluid samples, which would be used to generate anti-PAcP antibodies-Proposed the use of these antibodies to (1) identify specific regions of PAcP protein that are surface exposed; (2) correlate expression levels of surface proteins at different stages of cancer progression; (3) use them as a predictive biomarker and therapeutic Show less

      Undergraduate Research Assistant

-Undergraduate Research Assistant working in the Gundiah Lab under Dr. Namrata Gundiah-This project involved the identification of the most prominent mutated genetic sequences associated with Marfan’s Syndrome in the Indian population-DNA was purified from blood samples of patients with Marfan’s syndrome-Sequences known to be associated with this disease were found from scientific literature-The patient DNA was then fragmented and copied using PCR-These fragments were then sequenced and used to create a database for comparisons of such sequences between multiple patients, noting for any common abnormalities-The preliminary work for this project was presented by the Principal Investigator at the World Congress on Biomechanics, Singapore, 2010. Undergraduate Research Assistant

-Undergraduate Research Assistant working in the Anderson Lab under Dr. J. Christopher Anderson-The primary focus of this research project was on the design and implementation of tumor killing bacteria-These bacteria were cultured by the graduate researcher, and were then injected into subcutaneous tumors in nude mice by the undergraduate research assistants-The tumors were then excised from the mice at different time points, homogenized, and plated on agar plates to assess for bacterial efficacy against the tumor cells Show less
