Policy, Plans, and Cooperation, Branch Head

I tackled a spectrum of security and defense policy issues spanning both political and military dimensions, actively shaping specific strands of work and relevant documents. My efforts extended to strengthening the NATO – EU Joint Declaration's implementation, recognizing the growing importance of collaboration between NATO and the EU. I played a key role in implementing the Alliance's fortified deterrence and defense posture, ensuring overall coherence. Additionally, I cultivated relationships with NATO's partners in Cooperative Security, contributing to the development of military concepts like Projecting Stability and Stability Policing. At the forefront of leadership, I directed the NATO Defense Planning Process and specialized in capability development, with a specific emphasis on providing "Military Committee inputs to the Political Guidance 19." A pivotal aspect of my role involved spearheading advancements in Military Mobility and European Defense within the context of NATO – EU Cooperation. Serving as the national point of contact and delegate for STRATCOM matters in the Multinational Civilian Working Group (MCWG), I represented the nation as a delegate for the Land Standardization Board (NSO). In my leadership role at NATO International Staff, I conducted strategic analysis, planning, and policy synchronization across the IMS. I addressed defense and security policy issues within the military dimension of the Alliance, producing comprehensive strategic assessments for the NATO Southern Flank and Northern Flank. My expertise contributed to developing high-level political/military policy and concepts, including the NATO Linkages Process, CHODs Risk Assessment, climate change's impact on the military dimension, and China's strategic military rise and its influence in the SACEUR AoR.As a key player in the NET ASSESSMENT project, I was a member of a dedicated team examining challenges, threats, asymmetries, strategic unbalanced, and risks from NATO Strategic Directions. Additionally, I provided tailored analyses for NATO's Strategic Direction South and North, assessing potential risks and opportunities for the Alliance amidst evolving geopolitical landscapes. My commitment to delivering nuanced insights played a crucial role in informing policy decisions and strategy formulation at the highest echelons of NATO leadership. Show less As a Senior Strategic Analyst in the (IS ESC Div) Strategic Analysis Capability, my engagement in the Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) domain involved challenging prevailing assumptions about future trends, identifying weak signals, and addressing blind spots in organizational awareness. This proactive approach contributed to anticipatory decision-making, particularly in the political-military context. A key aspect of my role was delivering strategic assessments and analyses to senior leadership, both military and civilian, to facilitate their consideration in the decision-making process related to potential emerging crises. In addition, I took a leading role in formulating comprehensive strategic analyses and reports on the international security environment, supporting policy development and strategy formulation. I specialized in assessing potential elements of crises, risks, and opportunities for the Alliance, focusing on pioneering the development of in-depth analyses tailored specifically for NATO Strategic Direction South (NSD-S).Building collaborative ties with the NSD-S Hub (JFC NAPLES) and ACT, I served as a vital Strategic Foresight stakeholder. Engaging in early warning, crisis anticipation, and horizon scanning efforts, I contributed to enhancing the Alliance's preparedness and strategic foresight capabilities. Show less

Certified Executive in Strategic Foresight and Comparative Assessment Expert.

I have spent most of my professional career developing and implementing security-related policies and strategies linked to international relations and defense-related issues. In addition, I have developed significant knowledge and consistent ability in networking at the political and strategic levels in the international, politico-military context due to my appointments at NATO HQ in Brussels (Italian Delegation, International Staff (IS), and International Military Staff (IMS).As a result, I've gained a comprehensive understanding (as well as a personal interest) in defense and security policy developments (including the impact of climate change on the security dimension), intelligence analysis, defense and military planning, strategic foresight, and comparative (net) assessments, both in the military and political domain. However, the professional peculiarity that counts more is the mindset I acquired while analyzing comparative strategic competition between contenders. I‘ve refined this mindset while working within the NATO Strategic Analysis & Foresight and Net Assessment teams in the last 5/6 years. Show less
