  I carried out my PhD in the lab of Professor Gavin Woodhall. My PhD investigated neuronal network dynamics in drug refractory temporal lobe epilepsy. A variety of software (e.g. SPSS, R, Matlab, Excel, GraphPad Prism, Spike2) were used to complete, innovate and interpret complex statistical analysis of large time-frequency data sets. Completion of the practical experiments required initiative, self-reliance and good time management skills of different workloads. Completion of the written PhD thesis required the ability to systematically research, organise and effectively present large amounts of data. I communicated complex ideas of my scientific investigations effectively to wide range of audiences at local, national (e.g. BNA, 3-MT competition) and international conferences (e.g. FENS). During my PhD I also manged and trained placement students in the laboratory, ensuring their safety with drugs and scientific equipment and their professional development. Show less

  As part of the 5 week S2DS programme I worked with the international bank, Investec, helping them develop profiles of their brokers in asset finance. SQL and R were utilised to clean and aggregate large amounts of data. Further exploratory data analysis, feature engineering and different clustering methods (e.g. K-means and DBScan) were conducted in R, to classify different brokers. Effective data visualisations were made and presented to the business and fellow data scientists on the S2DS programme. I adapted to working using an agile approach to project management and successfully applied data science approaches to business problems. Show less
