This research involved modeling muscle effort from VMG signals of the lower back using wavelet packages. We have developed the whole experiment protocol and discovered the location of the sensor for obtaining the most consistent and clear VMG signal. Since the erector muscles contain a small fraction of Type II muscle fibers, with the remainder being Type I postural fibers, these muscle fibers contract at different frequency regimes. From careful research and repeated experimentation we found out a relatively accurate wavelet package which has a more accurate way to proportionally estimate muscle effort. Show less

    • Binghamton University

      May 2013 - Aug 2017
      Graduate Assistant

      • Assisted in setting up the research laboratory from scratch as Prof. Guy German’s first Ph.D. student;• Conducted more than 4 major research projects in: 1. quantification of multi-scale mechanics of stratum corneum, failure mechanics of stratum corneum, 2. understanding the mechanism of polymer in alleviating wrinkles and creating artificial skin model. 3. evaluating moisturizer effects on the biological properties of skin, 4. mechanism of surfactant binding with stratum corneum, • Acquired skin imaging techniques including, fluorescent microscopy, confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and multi-photon microscopy.• Trained in different image processing algorithms such as particle image velocimetry, centroid tracking algorithms, and traction force microcopy. • Helped to develop the algorithms which coded primarily using MATLAB. • Investigated effect of surfactants on barrier damage of human ex-vivo stratum corneum;• Quantified evaporation dynamics of treated human ex-vivo stratum corneum.

    • Gordon Research Conferences

      Aug 2015 - Aug 2017
Chair- GRS on Barrier Function of Mammailan Skin

The first Gordon Research Seminar on Barrier Function of Mammalian Skin is a new and special forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with similar interests to present and exchange cutting edge ideas. The topics of this seminar will span all facets of fundamental and applied science as related to barrier function of skin. This includes barrier structure, function and disease, skin biomechanics, new approaches to overcome the skin barrier and technologies in investigating drug absorption. This seminar provides opportunities for young investigators to pitch their work, communicate with other young pioneers and gain confidence for the following GRC conference. Furthermore, the seminar strives to provide attendees career development opportunities by including a panel session that mentors will provide key insights and advice. Show less
