      Activities and Societies: I am a member of the Gaelic football team in the college. I was nominated as class representative in 3rd year (2013-2014). I was a support for other class members and helped them with any difficulties they were experiencing. I advised the students on what to do if there was any issues they had as an individual or as a class. I was a link between both the lecturers and the students. I volunteer in the college in G.I.V.E.

      Activities and Societies: Elected as student rep. from 2005-2009 to represent my year. I was a member of the gaelic football team and the basketball team. The subjects that I studied during my time in secondary school were: English, Irish, Mathematics, French, Italian, Business Studies, Woodwork, Home Economics, Technical Drawing, Enterprise, Agricultural Science, C.S.P.E and Physical Education. I also completed Transition Year in 2008-2009.

      I was involved in a number of children's afterschool groups, both recreational and educational. The children were from both primary and secondary school. I assisted a teacher in the homework club. In the afterschool clubs there were different activities organised by a staff member and I. Activities such as art, cooking, swimming and general discussions. I was given the responsibility for running a computer class for young children on a Friday evening. I set up a basic skills program and kept a scrap book of each activity they carried out for the 10 weeks. Show less

      My 3rd year College placement was in Clarecare. I worked in both the Killaloe and Ennis offices. I was supervised by a member of the Clarecare staff. I was given responsibilities of one to one work with children who were referred to the service. I was given the opportunity to arrange the programme that would suit the childs needs. I also worked alongside my supervisor to run a self esteem group with young children who were also referred to the service. I was responsible for the case notes for each session which were then reviewed by my supervisor.I had one to one work involving teenagers.I was given the opportunity to be involved in a parenting programme by observing and researching information for the sessions. During the Summer, Clarecare hired me to work in the Summer Camps with the other staff members. I was given main responsibility of organising the art and craft for each summer camp and teach it to the children who attended the camp. Show less

      I work with both adults and children in these services. The service users may have autism ranging from mild, moderate to severe. There are service users with other disabilities that require full assistance from staff members. There is a lot of one to one work with service users in order to make the service user feel secure and supported and that their needs are fully met. The service users are given options to also part take in activities such as horse riding, swimming, cinema, walks and other activities that are of interest to them.       I work as a care worker in a children's respite for autistic children between the ages of 5-18years of age. My duties within the service are to carry out risk assessments in the service, create menu plans for the service each week, ensure that all health and safety matters are recognised and resolved within the service. I ensure that I give the highest standard of care to each service user. By doing this, I adhere to the policies and procedures of the company, I ensure that I am aware of any changes in each service user PCP file. I make sure to offer each child a variety of activities to take part in while in the respite service. I am also currently in charge of the Saturday Club that involves organising social outings and activities for a group of teenagers who attend the service. Show less
