I worked within the Tombouctou Manuscripts Project, conducting independent research into the Arabic and ajami written traditions of South Africa. In addition to this work I helped with the overall running of the project, which consisted of liasing with scholars throughout the continent, arranging and facilitating academic seminars and conferences in Cape Town and in Timbuktu, Mali, maintaining the Project's website and assisting with day-to-day administration. I held individual writing consultations with undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Cape Town, assisting students with their academic writing and literacy challenges. I also facilitated group workshops about essay writing for specific classes within the university.
