Preclinical evaluation of a novel imaging tool (i.e., macroscopic fluorescence lifetime imaging) developed by ETRO-VUB for surgical intra-operative cancer margin assessment and pathologic specimen testing. Led preclinical studies in murine tumor models with novel targeted near-infrared tracers (antibodies and nanobodies) and compared those with the non-targeting clinical available near-infrared dye Indocyanine Green. Initiated and optimized experimental protocols of imaging and analysis.Conducted spectral analysis of novel dyes measuring their absorbance, excitation and emission profiles. Prepared tissue sample preparation protocols for microscopic evaluation.Mentored and supervised students in an applied research setting. Obtained experience in formalin-fixed paraffin embedding of tissues/cryofixation and sectioning. A collaborative environment allows me to engage in a diverse network of professionals within Europe. Leading a clinical trial to evaluate macroscopic fluorescence lifetime imaging in dogs and cats with cancer, which are relevant translational models for human medicine. Developing and implementing protocols for FLTi in a surgical setting and analyzing data to evaluate the efficacy of the technique while working in a collaborative environment of industrial engineers, bio-engineers, clinical scientists and veterinary surgeons.Furthermore, characterizing the fluorescence lifetime of near-infrared dyes microscopically.
