  I assisted the Senior Manager in preparation for the 2009 World Travel Market. This involved securing press passes for staff, preparing merchandise for the conference, arranging luxury trips to Dubai for winners and assisting in the decorative theme and set up of the stall. During my time at DTCM I wrote press releases under strict deadlines, proofread content prior to publication, produced original copy for company websites ‘Dubai Update’ and ‘Dubai Travel Market’, managed travel agent training website ‘Dubai Expert’, presented at exhibitions and joint marketing events and completed budget reports and invoices. I also worked with the PR Manager and monitored our autumn and winter tourism advertising campaigns.   I was employed by News Associates/Sportsbeat, a national journalism training centre and sports press agency. I created, edited and managed a London-based hyper-local website and was heavily involved in the concept and branding of the site and responsible for the launch and marketing of the project. I managed a team of journalists, ensuring stories produced were accurate and all deadlines met. I was responsible for editing and uploading all content onto the site, sourcing news, sport and entertainment stories, monitoring readers’ comments, dealing with all admin issues, running the site’s social media feeds and liaising with London councils, PR companies, and entertainment facilities to obtain press passes for events.In addition I was teaching on full-time and part-time journalism courses. My main subject area was shorthand but I also taught on the news reporting and sports journalism modules. I marked papers, ran evening tutorial groups for students, became a certified shorthand exam reader to trainees, invigilated NCTJ exams, liaised directly with the NCTJ on exam-related issues and workshops, created and maintained exam result and trainee attendance databases, attended workshops at university fairs across the country and assisted the head of journalism in creating and carrying out new class exercises.   I worked as a lecturer at GUST teaching courses in ‘Introduction to Writing for Mass Media’ and ‘News Writing’. The courses were very practical and involved a lot of one-on-one mentoring with media and PR students. I was responsible for preparing my own lecture notes, delivering classes, providing out-of-class assistance to students and handling all course administration. I also wrote press releases and news stories for the University’s Public Relations team for media distribution, the GUST website and GUST Times.
