4 colour planner / scanner operator

I would plan A4 4 colour page film to be shot on the Opticopy step & repeat system and only very basic final film work was required. After 4 Years at the company I was moved to the Scanning area in which I was trained on how to use an ITEK 440 drum scanner, ICG 440 vertical drum scanner and Eskofot flatbed scanner. I would scan 35mm transparencies and colour originals in the form of photos and even artist paintings. Some retouching was required using Photoshop. As technology improved, the role then included creating PS files from supplied Quark high res files and imposing those using Preps & Farrukh, then outputting to Dolev film setter. Show less

My role as systems manager was to maximize the pre-press capabilities within the creative division of AGI UK. It involved improving current workflows and procedures to maximize the efficiency of the current system. I was responsible for the productivity and quality of work produced by the pre-press department and to ensured it ran as part of a bigger team liaising with the design studio, the other pre-press departments and the print manufacturing and archiving sites within the group. My main responsibilities were to maintain all server equipment and software related to the pre-press environment, to communicate to all staff any changes to workflows and procedures, monitor the state of the server and make sure it did not become overloaded, deal with any questions from operators about troubleshooting and any problems with hardware and software. Show less I progressed at the company after gaining substantial knowledge in special packaging. My role was a liaison between the special projects manager and production. This involved taking job briefs for special projects and relaying the correct information onto art workers. This included making sure that there is information on grids, any special colours were clearly marked up and also special finishes like embossing and varnishes. I dealt with all queries from art workers and also gave technical advice. I also dealt with questions from the client service managers relating to their special packaging elements and gave them advice on improving their projects. In quiet periods I was helpful in production in the quality control area as well as art working and sending jobs to repro. Show less I worked as a repro operator on the night shift, we would make files ready for print and output an Iris digital proof. I had various projects to work on from DVD Sleeves to all aspects of special packaging, like Slipcases and Digipaks. After being at the company for 2 years I was promoted to assistant shift manager of which I dealt with more technical issues from all members on the shift, from problems with jobs, to sorting out there Macs, which could involve rebuilding their machines.
