Through my years of experimental experience, I became confident in the laboratory environment and in the writing of technical experimental reports.During the fourth year of my degree a large proportion of my time was spent on a final year project, working in a research laboratory as part of a materials chemistry group. My individual project investigated the use of a metal organic framework as a hard template to produce porous carbons as potential media for hydrogen storage. The project required thorough background research in scientific journals, experimental and safety planning, material synthesis and material characterization through several analytical techniques. I found working in a challenging new area of research, with a group that could really make a difference to the advancement of our future energy needs, the most exciting part of my degree. Show less
