      Promote and maintain a high standard of public health, environmental conditions, and environmental control standards; enforce applicable regulations and by-laws; identify all factors detrimental to community and environmental health and for the abatement of same as provided for by applicable rules, regulations and by-laws; review and draft new and/or updates standards, programs and controls; carry out a wide variety of public health and environmental control inspectional duties; perform education, research, assessments, analytical tasks, and prepares relevant reports. Liaise with public health professions, design professions, land use planning professional organizations, and decision-makers in municipal and regional governments to bring forth the impact of the built environment on health and well-being of the public; assist with funding proposals, briefing documents, evidence based research to obtain support for healthy built environment framework; help guide the framework and provide content for long range planning documents such as Official Community Plans, Neighbourhood Concept Plans, Parks Master Plans and Transportation Plans; provide leadership for healthier, more livable communities; promote active living approaches and shape healthier built environments such as neighbourhood design, transportation networks, natural environments, housing, and food systems.
