      Work Inspiration

By undertaking a three day Work Inspiration course at the Hilton, I was introduced to each of the different departments that go into running this international hotel. To receive a holistic understanding of the operation, I worked closely with various mentors in HR, Accounting, Food and Beverage, Events Management and Security. At the end of the program, I was approached to give a TV interview discussing my experience, as well as writing an article for The Bulletin.

    • Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation

      Jan 2018 - Apr 2018
      Venue Communications Center (VCC) Supervisor

This university-based internship provided me with invaluable experience in the Major Events industry. I worked alongside the venue management team in the lead up to Games Time, assisting the Venue General Manager with preparing venue-specific documents, managing volunteer rosters and creating processes and procedures to be implemented in the Venue Communications Centre. During Games Time, I supervised a great team of enthusiastic volunteers through monitoring radio communications. This required constant coordination of channels and volunteers with quick problem solving and support during stressful radio activity. I learned a lot about volunteer management and how it extends further than immediate support. It became clear that engagement and flexibility was the key to balancing volunteer satisfaction and efficiency which inspired me to get creative by introducing fun competitions and games to keep the experience enjoyable during quiet times. This work-integrated learning provided me with an extensive insight into the Major Events industry and allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of my acedemic learnings through practical experiences.
