  Research Assistant

  While working for Niagara Research, I collaboratively worked with the Photonics department towards creating a detection system for Powdery Mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum) in a greenhouse setting. This work included maintaining plant and fungi cultures, including propagation of plants using cuttings, as well as the inoculation of plants with powdery mildew spores.As part of my work, I would write weekly and monthly update reports for the other researchers keeping them up-to-date on any developments or issues.   Summer Student - Plum Pox Virus Research

  While working for AAFC, I assisted in research on Plum Pox Virus (PPV), which included handling infected plants in a sterile containment room. Duties included inoculating plants with PPV, maintaining colonies of aphids for inoculations of live plant tissue with PPV, as well as the preparation of leaf samples for ELISA and real-time PCR testing to diagnose PPV infections. I would also make the master mix for real-time PCR analysis.
