  As a Fort Collins Police Officer, I served with distinction in several assignments during my career. As a community policing specialist I was responsible for problem identification and problem solving requiring innovative and non-traditional methods to affect crime and nuisance issues. I conducted criminal and non-criminal investigations that included the identification and handling of evidence, case preparation, and testimony in court proceedings. As a senior officer and patrol supervisor I handled scheduling, deployment, counseling and discipline recommendations, training issues, media relations and dissemination of information, calls for service, tactical planning and decision making. As the Crime Prevention Coordinator and as a Community Affairs Officer working in the Office of the Chief of Police I supervised and participated in presentations and educational outreach for citizens, students, in-service police academy, and other agencies throughout the state. As a Field Training Officer I conducted training in the classroom and field with new police officers, preparing them for a solo assignment as a Fort Collins Police Officer. As a Detective in the Investigations Division I conducted police investigations in cases involving robbery, homicide, major thefts, and was considered an expert in interview and interrogation. For over 16 years I was a member of our Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). As the senior crisis negotiator I was the lead negotiator in several hundred cases. I also served as a Negotiations team supervisor and provided Negotiation-Tactical Command expertise. Graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Crisis Negotiations Commanders Course.
