    • The Co-operative Group

      Oct 2010 - Sept 2012
      Customer Assistant

I worked at the co-operative supermarket for two years as a part of a team to deliver customer service. I was mainly on "checkout" duties (i.e. Tills), involving direct interaction with customers in a friendly and competent manner, working under pressure in busy times by keeping queues moving and frustrated customers reassured and receiving regular training in employment standards and legal practices. I would also work on the ambient and fresh sections, which required a concise knowledge of store conventions, customer shopping preferences and presentation of products. Show less

      Nov 2012 - Sept 2015
      Lettings Assistant

While at University, I worked at a student letting agency, both as a team member and an individual, to provide good, effective and honest service to students and landlords. My usual duties involved the day-to-day running of the office, dealing with enquiries, bookings and performing viewings. This built numerous skills over the three years I worked there, most notably organisation, communication and selling skills. I was regulalry involved in the writing and signing of legal documents (mainly tenancy agreements), resulting in a comprehensive knowledge of laws, rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords, and being able to express these clearly. The diverse nature of the University mean that I interacted with students and landlords from various social and economic backgrounds, which required listening skills, empathy and thinking alternatively. The result of this was that I understood the value of forming long-term professional relationships. I was occasionally asked to supervise when the manager was on leave, forming a sense of responsibility. It was sometimes also necessary to act as a leader and direct workload. As a team, we won the “Student Employee of the Year Award” for 2 years running Show less

    • University of Birmingham

      May 2015 - Nov 2016
      Administrator

I have worked as temporary staff at the University of Birmingham through Pertemps, giving me the opportunity to work in numerous departments, gaining a good insight into how a large organisation functions at a large level. My placements in History and Cultures, ISAS and the Birmingham International Academy have revolved strongly around the handling of data for applications and registers, meaning I have developed an attention to detail as a result. These placements also consisted of "front-of-house" duties, including responding to enquiries from students, keeping check of office supplies and the general state of the building, supplying teachers with resources and organising files, resources and archives. This has encouraged a strong level of organisation and presenting a professional front which is both amiable and professional. My work at Careers Network and the NHS Leadership Academy took on a more general form of administrative support - at Careers Network I assisted with the allocation of Careers Advice resources to different departments, while at the NHSLA I worked as a programme-specific administrator (volunteering to take on larger cohorts to suit the needs of the department). Both of these departments were observed by other bodies - either neighbouring departments (in the case of Careers Network) or the University's project partners (at the NHSLA) - and therefore required that I had a system of organisation that was effective and easy to use whilst also accessible for an observer. Additionally, whilst at Careers Network I volunteered to manage and direct some aspects of the social media presence, receiving appropriate training.Departments worked for:- Birmingham International Academy (May 2016 - September 2016)- School of History and Cultures (January 2016 - April 2016)- Careers Network (September 2015 - December 2015)- International Students Advisory Service (September 2015)- NHS Leadership Academy (May 2015 - August 2015) Show less

    • Ciaran Campbell Tutoring

      Jan 2017 - Dec 2017
      Private Tutor

After completing my CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) I tutored privately for ESOL, English, and the 11+, in and around Birmingham. I developed methods of planning my own lessons and curriculum, responsive to learners' needs, learning to prioritise which topics and materials to use in sessions. My students had different backgrounds, abilities and ages, from Beginners to Advanced speakers, so my delivery and planning had to be focussed on their needs while also being efficient. This work also gave me experience of running a small business, including taking note of accounts and payments, responding to enquiries in a polite and timely manner, and arranging a working calendar. I really enjoyed growing the business in the community, and finding new ways to promote myself. Show less

    • Moonkkang Enghan

      Dec 2017 - Jul 2018
EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Teacher

After my work as a private tutor, I was offered a role with Moonkkang, teaching students from ages 5 to 14 in levels from A1 to B2. I taught within the school’s curriculum, delivering lessons that adapted to the needs of the learners in each group, and learned quickly how to manage and engage larger classes. On Wednesdays, I ran a “free class” outside of the school’s curriculum, which allowed me to develop different strategies within a less restrictive environment.

    • Take English

      Sept 2018 - Jun 2019
EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Teacher

At Take English, I taught students aged 6 to adults, levels A0 to B2. I had a looser curriculum than in previous jobs, and learned to construct lessons based on the academy’s resources, while introducing more personalised activities to students. Though the academy's main focus was children and teenagers, I also taught classes for the Cambridge exams (Specifically First and PET).This job allowed me to expand my responsibilities, writing reports in the local language for students, tracking students’ progress, and monitoring and running mock exams myself. Jul 2019 - Sept 2019
EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Teacher

During summer 2019, I taught at a number of English Camps in the UK and Italy for 8-15 year olds, including Devon School of English, PGL and The English Experience. I planned and delivered fun and engaging lessons with clear language goals, in accordance to targets and specific themes set by the schools. There was a strong emphasis on project work at these camps, so I had to opportunity to take a freer approach to teaching. I also learnt how to build rapport with students in a short span of time, and effectively resolve complicated behaviour issues. Many of this classes had a broad range of levels and in my observations it was noted that I had developed a strong ability to differntiate the levels in my class, and deliver lessons to them effectively. As part of the camps, I led a range of activities where I took students outside of the school and was the sole responsible adult for them. When working with The English Experience, I was tasked with organising the final performance, and had to work across four classes and liaise with the other teachers to achieve this, co-ordinating the language the students were using and the overall staging and production of the performance. This was a large project and we recieved strong positive feedback from the parents. Show less
