  Ken was a principal of BTA, a health care design firm that was started in 1972. During his tenure there, BTA grew to a 120-person firm with projects throughout the West Coast. Ken was the senior health care planner and programmer, and was responsible for many diverse and challenging health care planning and master planning design projects.He authored several articles on hospital planning and health care policy during his tenure at BTA, and spoke at a number of industry events.

  Ken was a founding principal of LBL, a design firm offering architectural and planning services to health care, upper education and other institutional clients. LBL was founded in 1986, and continued to serve clients throughout the West Coast primarily, and selectively in other geographic markets up to 2015, when LBL merged with Perkins Eastman to represent that firm's West Coast presence.LBL became an award-winning design firm with notable projects throughout the State. Notable projects included the design of the replacement for Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the design for the replacement of LAC+USC Medical Center (in association with HOK LA), and the medical design for the Stanford University Medical Center replacement project. Other LBL work included projects at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a number of Kaiser Medical Centers, Barstow Community Hospital, Redlands Community Hospital, Providence Saint John's Health Center, and several University of California campuses (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Riverside).   LBL merged with Perkins Eastman, effective January 1, 2015. The Perkins Eastman/LBL merger creates a stronger West Coast presence for Perkins Eastman in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. LBL's traditional design and planning practice area in health care and higher education will be enhanced by the design strengths of Perkins Eastman. In addition, the other practice areas of Perkins Eastman of senior living, residential, urban planning, higher education, and commercial/mixed use will also be provided through our West Coast offices.
