  Project Coordinator

  After making a significant impact after volunteering at the organisation in early 2008, I was offered a paid and permanent role to start later in the year at this educational and health NGO in Dar es Salaam. I was initially responsible for volunteer management and welfare - managing 60 volunteers and 20 staff at a busy bar and hostel, but later also assumed responsibility for 15 health and educational projects.Responsibilities/Achievements -Overseeing 10-15 educational, health, HIV awareness, and sports projects and for managing and engineering volunteers and interns programmes and placements. I developed a curriculum, structure, and outcomes/outputs to attract funders and demonstrate success.-Day-to-day management of volunteer hostel and bar which accommodated 60 volunteers. When I arrived relationships with volunteers were challenging. I transformed this by implementing clearer communication, inspiring and supporting them in their projects, and ensuring the organisation became more accountable. -Project design - I implemented structure into all projects and planned and delivered new ones at a high school and orphanage.-Fundraising - I made the organisation more attractive to funders and completed its first successful funding proposal.-Event management - I organised a HIV awareness event that was attended by well over 1000 people, was promoted on national television, and featured performances from nationally famous musicians. I work on a 12 month contract to transform two loss-making operations into profitable businesses.Key achievements:-Thoroughly evaluating the businesses, conducting market research and developing financial projections to assess viability of initial approach, identify savings, and plan future approaches.-Increasing gross margin on bakery products by 20% by overhauling supply chain and developing more profitable approaches.-Increasing monthly bakery revenue by 400% (and 1000% in December) and venue hire revenue by 50%.-Engaging leading City businesses for pro bono support: web development and branding/concept.-Costing, planning, and developing a new revenue stream - letterbox-friendly gifts and corporate packages that are expected to double monthly revenues at a minimum.-Building logistical frameworks that will enable the business to continue to succeed after my contract expires. Show less I co-ordinated a multi-award winning Catering Trainee Scheme whilst building an employability skills programme for supporting homeless people into work.Key achievements- Supporting 74 clients into work and training- Providing 1:1 support and guidance to 191 clients, supporting them to develop industry-specific skills, and to aid with tackling mental health and substance misuse issues.- Built a corporate engagement strategy to maximise the outcomes from corporate social responsibility for all parties.- Design and delivery of a 10 week employability programme - 'Working On It' - matching corporate expertise with client need - e.g. staff from a law firm teaching debate and negotiation. -Engaged six new corporate partners for the above project.
