      Education Welfare Officer

My main responsibility was to monitor and improve attendance in schools. I worked with staff, pupils and their parents to identify barriers to attending school and to plan solutions. In the event that attendance failed to improve, I was bound to take parents to court where inevitably I sought courses for the parents to attend to develop their knowledge and skills in parenting.

      Sept 2003 - Mar 2012
Educational Psychologist (EP) (inc. 5 years specialist role)

As a 'mainstream' EP I worked in a team of psychologists applying psychology at a range of levels; Local Authority, whole school, group and individual. I applied psychological knowledge and skills in a dynamic and sensitive way. I used primarily a consultation approach to working with schools and families to overcome challenges to children’s development. I advised in specialist areas such as social, emotional and behavioural needs, physical and sensory impairment, and learning. I produced statutory reports and provided training to schools and other professionals.I helped develop a specialist team to provide preventative and early intervention work with children, parents, families and schools to improve emotional and educational outcomes. This focused around behaviour, attendance and mental health, with an emphasis on the latter, in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. I achieved outcomes by working in ways that were different to and additional to other psychologists. I worked within a multi-agency framework, leading projects, training and managing a team of Pupil Support Officers. I evaluated all outcomes and developed practice accordingly to ensure that we were delivering a quality service. I worked at a number of levels: local authority strategy and provision, whole school improvement, classroom, parent and pupil programmes, individual support. I challenged practice in schools, for example, staff stress, high levels of pupil exclusions, limited parental engagement, and children under-achieving. I supported families from a range of cultural and economic backgrounds. I combined a hands-on approach for example delivering parent programmes and piloting projects, with work at a strategic and managerial level.I practised as a qualified psychotherapist through children’s centres. I presented my work at a local and national level. Show less

      Apr 2012 - now
      Chartered Psychologist & Psychotherapist

I founded It’s Time for Change based on the belief that if we all started to do things a little bit differently, we’d achieve huge results.Working as a psychologist & psychotherapist, I originally focused on emotional development and mental health. I soon recognised the importance of taking a holistic approach to workplace culture — not only for individual and team wellbeing — but for the commercial success of the business: When we get people right, we get business right. It’s Time for Change is now dedicated to working collaboratively with business leaders to create workplace cultures where employees excel, where teams are dynamic and where people are happy. My services range from team workshops and mastermind sessions which help improve communication and collaboration, through to individual coaching and consultations aimed at increasing leadership confidence or supporting an individual's mental health and wellbeing. I also offer Workplace Insight services — a great first step to help businesses gain a clear picture of current staff engagement and take positive action to achieve meaningful change. Show less
