      Storage Engineering Intern

As a Storage Engineering Intern, I worked closely with engineering team leads to assist in the development and implementation of several products that aimed to reduce part number and assembly complexity on a newly designed and offered grain bin stair system. I also worked to design and implement a previously purchased safety gate that was meant to be manufactured using GSI equipment, ultimately saving the company upwards of $200,000 annually. All of these products are now used worldwide on GSI equipment. My primary project as a Storage Engineering Intern was to research, design, and test a new noise suppression system for large portable dryer fans moving over 43,000 cubic feet of air per minute. In this capacity, I was challenged to simplify the old-style noise suppressor manufacturing and assembly, while at the same time improving upon its effectiveness. I led the evaluation of the effectiveness of various noise suppression materials, as well as the testing to ensure no airflow interference on dryer fans. This design is now in production and used worldwide where portable dryer noise is a nuisance to local communities. Show less

      Conditioning Engineering Intern

As a Conditioning Engineering Intern, I worked side-by-side with engineering staff and managers to design and develop a new generation of portable dryer access and service platforms aimed towards facilities with 2- and 3-stacked portable drying systems. My design was required to meet stringent cost targets while adhering to all OSHA safety standards aimed towards end-user safety. I was also tasked with communicating with manufacturing to ensure that all new design concepts were able to be manufactured using existing GSI manufacturing equipment. My work during this internship was carried over to the final platform design, which is now a current product offering. As a senior design engineer for GSI protein systems, I am responsible for the development and production release of industry leading swine production systems. I work closely with product management colleagues and customers to develop the products that our customers need to protect the wellbeing of their swine production facilities. As a senior design engineer for grain conditioning products, I was responsible for the research, design, and development of new equipment and/or processes to aid large and small farms and grain handling facilities. I worked primarily on industry-leading ideas and equipment with the end goal to revolutionize the agriculture equipment market through efficiency and grain quality improvements.
