  Coldwater Creek Facts (STL nuclear weapons waste remediation)

  Coldwater Creek Facts Co-Founder/Co-Leader

  Co-founder and co-leader of over 20,000-member Facebook group "Coldwater Creek-Just the Facts Please" exploring and investigating the United States' first nuclear weapons waste, dumped at the headwaters of Coldwater Creek beginning in the 1940s. Coldwater Creek meanders throughout northern STL County and has flooded extensively, repeatedly, in the past. Testing and remediation by the Army Corps of Engineers' FUSRAP (program) is directed by the 2005 Record of Decision. Working to ensure thorough and appropriate testing and remediation in prior flooded areas as well as working closely with the St. Louis County Department of Health to assist in the design of a co-hort health study to analyze the health effects on the community's population. Assisted in passing STL County Council Resolution in Fall 2014 calling on federal agencies to expedite radionuclide remediation in North County and assist in studying the health effects on the community. Our 3/14 Op Ed assisted MO DHSS in funding an additional health study in 9/14, noting higher rates than expected of radiation-linked cancers in the area. As a result of our efforts, on 6/18/18 the ATSDR/CDC issued a final Public Health Assessment (see the official pronouncement at the Coldwater Creek ATSDR website) concluding former and current community members do indeed have a higher possible exposure risk to certain cancer and disease from the thorium, radium, and uranium from our country’s first nuclear weapons work allowed to meander throughout the area via water and wind.
