      As an academic researcher and assistant to the director of IRCP, my T&R’s included:- Legal research in a policy-oriented national research project;- Co-drafting research projects with the aim of obtaining grants, both through national and EU funding mechanisms;- Educational tasks such as correcting exams, assisting students on their internships, guiding and grading dissertations, etc;- Developing research-, writing-, editorial and public speaking skills;- Active participation at international conferences.       At the time of my internship with the urban protection team of the UNHCR Field Office Amman, there were approximately 600.000 refugees in Jordan. Through the luck of working for an excellent protection officer and my own initiative, I was able to manage several projects. My responsibilities at UNHCR included:- Building an online database, mapping all services provided to refugees in Jordan, by UNHCR and its partners, with the objective of facilitating referrals and optimizing services.- Contributing to a mass information campaign in the form of a 'Frequently Asked Questions Report': consulting relevant parties, acquiring the complete information required and drafting of a document compiling all relevant information for refugees, to be dispersed to all service providers in Jordan. - Improvement of reporting tools for the Situation Report of the UNHCR Protection Unit: Streamlining of the subunits’ weekly situation reports, with the objective of establishing correct and time efficient reporting mechanisms. - Facilitating data input by external partners: Developing a tool to render the input of refugee information gathered by external partners into the UNHCR system automatically, thus opening up staff for other projects.- Development and improvement of performance tracking tools: Operationalizing and improving existing Excel performance tracking tables.- Drafting minutes for diverse working group meetings.       As a direct advisor to the State Secretary, my work is focused mainly on non-discrimination, LGBTI-issues and combatting racism. The T&R's for this position include:- Drafting, substantiating and negotiating relevant policy and legislative measures within the State Secretary's competence and within the limits of the coalition agreement;- Consulting with relevant stakeholders, including fellow policy advisors, administrations, academics, civil society and representatives from European Institutions;- Identifying and involving new potential stakeholders, aiming to include a wide range of talented individuals in the policy process;- Exchanging expertise through a number of international networks;- Initiating, whenever possible and desirable, projects that will further Belgium’s stance on non-discrimination and equal opportunities, e.g. through campaigns, studies etc. I additionally act as:- Belgian representative for the European Commission's High Level Group on Non-Discrimination, Equality and Diversity- European Governmental LGBT Focal Points Network representative- Substitute Government representative in the National Commission for the Rights of the Child Show less

      As a policy officer within the Flemish government, I'm part of a small team committed to advancing equality within Flanders. I develop legislation and regulations focussing on non-discrimination, equal treatment and improving the position of women and LGBTI persons in society. To this extend I:- Research policy positions, caselaw and existing legal frameworks to provide preparatory analysis and innovative proposals - Contribute to the drafting of the Minister’s annual policy strategy- Organise and report on meetings with relevant stakeholders- Support the adoption of new Flemish legislation or its adaptation, based on strategic policy, the transposing of EU directives or following caselaw. - Manage grants and tenders- Manage information and awareness campaigns - Build networks, through representing Flanders in existing bodies, but also through regular interaction with relevant actors, including universities, civil society and representatives from other departments and offices of the government - Contribute to national and international reporting.
