Inmates were referred to art therapy services by primary Psych Specialist and were referred based on mental health diagnoses and/or co-occurring substance abuse issues. Worked closely with a large treatment team of psychological specialists, senior psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, medical doctors, and other various health and security staff. Created and maintained the implementation of an art therapy program within the prison facility; devising program schedules and maintaining Individual Service Plans (ISP’s) for inmates enrolled in art therapy program. Key Achievements• Collected art therapy research data pertaining to projective assessments and their use with male inmates in determining changes in internal locus of control and depression after receiving art therapy services.• Supervised practicum work of first-year art therapy graduate students placed at the prison; co-leading and observing group interactions to ensure ethical standards were upheld.• Offered a full-time permanent position in psychiatric department upon completion of internship.• Assessed individuals and group members regarding their socialization skills, positive coping abilities, and current mental/emotional states using clinical art therapy techniques.• Facilitated 6-8/1hr art therapy groups per week consisting each of 5-6 Psych level 3 inmates having diagnoses including (but not limited to): Antisocial Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Depression, Schizophrenia, Schizo-Affective Disorder, Substance Abuse and PTSD.• Administered individual art therapy sessions to approximately 4 inmates per week/1 hr sessions.
