  As a PhD student, I studied the associations of nitric oxide synthase gene variants, environmental factors (cigarette smoking, caffeine, pesticides, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), and their interactions for risk of Parkinson’s disease. I also performed an analytical comparison of interaction modeling methods in families with late-onset diseases.

  My fellowship focused on genome-wide association studies to identify novel genetic risk factors for asthma and lung function. These projects involved an extensive network of researchers across North America and Europe. I also studied oral contraceptive use before pregnancy and respiratory outcomes in subsequent children.
