      International Aboriginal Youth Internship

As part of the International Aboriginal Youth Internship Initiative (IAYI), generously funded by Global Affairs Canada, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate virtually with young Indigenous peers from both Canada and Peru, connecting over Zoom. My focus was on working with my Peruvian counterpart to teach English to Indigenous children in Cusco while also benefiting from their Spanish lessons in return. It was a truly enriching experience as we exchanged knowledge, culture, and language, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between our communities.Throughout our internship, we worked diligently on our project, developing innovative approaches to English language instruction tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous children in Cusco. We also gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by Indigenous communities in both Canada and Peru, deepening our appreciation for Indigenous cultures and traditions. At the culmination of our internship, we organized a two-day International Youth Forum, where we joined hands to celebrate the power of cultural exchange and the importance of sharing values. It was a remarkable event where we engaged in meaningful discussions, shared our experiences, and learned from each other's perspectives. The forum served as a platform for fostering lasting connections, promoting intercultural understanding, and empowering Indigenous youth to become leaders in their communities and beyond. Show less

      Work/Study Student

As part of OLI’s Work/Study Program, I completed a paid placement in my community while attending classes at Fanshawe College. During my placement, I researched the history of the buildings and structures in Membertou and created a timeline of their construction. This was done as part of a larger project for Membertou’s Comprehensive Community Planner. In addition to my placement, I also worked as a chaperone at OLI's Camp. In this role, I was responsible for a cabin of 8 youths. I also worked at OLI's Annual Showcase in the snack room, ensuring that all of the performers were fed. Show less
