      In today’s complex digital landscape where lines are blurred, it’s commonplace for spillover from online activities taking place outside of school, to impact on students’ learning and well-being inside of school. It is a landscape which on one hand provides young people incredible learning and social opportunities. On the other hand, with increasing prolific use of online platforms and digital technologies, the likelihood of risks and challenges arising also increases. It's more a case of 'when', not 'if' our young people and younger children may encounter online challenge. I am a qualified (M.Ed Hons) and registered educator with knowledge and experience in strategies to support students’ development of digital citizenship, online safety and wellbeing. In addition, developing parent and whānau awareness of what's needed. Also, ways to support leaders in schools and staff in developing their capabilities and knowledge around the skills, attitudes and values young people need to learn and thrive online. If young people are to thrive and grow into confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners, we need intentional and coherent learning opportunities across all levels of the school, woven into what we do everyday. Supports should draw on research, available resources and tools, initiatives involving young people themselves, and strong leadership. We walk the talk. Show less
