  • Experience

    • St Edmundsbury Borough Council

      Mar 2004 - Dec 2013

      • Researching and interpreting legislation and advice to provide an effective service for customers• Preparation and presentation of a wide range of reports • Leading on complaints investigation • Negotiating and mediating applications and proposed policies• Identifying risk and developing solutions to manage it• Working with a wide range of statutory partners, businesses and organizations to achieve common goalsAs part of an organizational restructure, I took redundancy from the Council in December 2013, which has provided me with an opportunity to pursue my interests in museums and heritage organization. Show less In 2004 I was appointed as Licensing Services manager and in 2005 I was responsible for the successful transfer of alcohol licensing to local authority control, dealing with over 1200 licence applications in a period of six months, and, as one of only a few authorities in the country, issuing all the licences on or before the go live date. This involved:• Working with colleagues and partner organizations across the County to draft, develop and deliver a range of guidance and training materials and events for applicants, staff and councilors; • Drafting, undertaking a detailed a consultation, and negotiating the adoption and publication of a new Statement of Licensing policy, and appropriate changes to the Council’s scheme of delegation to ensure its implementation; and• Ensuring the development of database software and procedures In 2008/9, I effected a move to electronic records of all historical data and ensured that a move of office locations resulted in no interruption to the licensing service. In 2010, I successfully led the implementation of a new licensing database, and took a leading role in the implementation of European Services Directive across the council. Show less
