      Engine Cadet

I spent three hundred days at sea as an engine cadet during the listed time period. My primary duties were performing rounds of the engine room, troubleshooting broken equipment such as purifiers and bilge pumps, main engine preventative maintenance including shock absorber replacement and injector and exhaust valve replacement. I also participated in the overhaul of distilling plants and oily water separators.I got a lot of hands on experience using power tools, arc welding, and engine room operations. During my time sailing for MSC, I earned my Tankerman Assistant (DL) certification, by participating in several underway replenishment bunkering operations. Show less

      Mechanical Engineer

Was responsible for the design and preparation of plans and specifications for the modification, installation, and procurement of shipboard machinery and systems. The work was often a segment of a larger complex project and performed in conjunction with contractors. When working with contractors it was my job to ensure the quality and accuracy of their work and accept it or reject it on behalf of MSC. I typically did this by performing drawing reviews as well as research to backup or disprove the contractor's findings.Frequently coordinated work with other departments such as Naval Architecture and Electrical Engineering, as well as ABS. Getting drawings reviewed by ABS was a very important part of the job. Also participated in frequent Shipchecks which were an important part of the process for each design package.Examples of some of the projects I was apart of are:-Fuel Oil Purifier selection and replacement design package-Design package for installation of a new HVAC system servicing a ship's paint room-UV Sterilizer selection and installation design package Show less
