      After many years at this weekly newspaper, I shifted roles to become an offsite editor, allowing me to work full-time from home on varied projects including writing, copy editing, proofreading, first-line editing, and more. As the manager of the Copy Department at this award-winning weekly newspaper, I set all editorial deadlines, managed a team of editors, copyedited and proofread content, and gave the final approval for publication. While preparing editorial pages for publication by copyediting, styling, and proofreading stories at this award-winning weekly newspaper, I also approved final pages for publication, wrote captions and headlines, carried out first-line edits, and wrote articles. After interning as a proofreader for two months, I successfully lobbied to have this paid position created for me due to my outstanding performance. I read all editorial pages of the weekly newspaper to prepare them for print, marking to fix formatting issues; problems with images, captions, and credits; grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and more before signing off each page as ready for final review.       I was honored to be asked back to speak to students in the Professional Editing program. As they neared graduation, they were eager to hear about the work of a real-life editor, learn about job hunting and interviewing, and ask questions about copyediting and running a department in the fast-paced newspaper world. I was also asked back to speak at a seminar for PhD candidates in the sciences about making scientific writing readable for general audiences.
