The post enabled me to develop the English language skills and confidence of the pupils with the effective use of my own skills. Encouraging and motivating the pupils built trust and a high level of class participation and interaction. Alongside this I maintained the organisational skills needed for day-to-day lesson planning within the dynamic working environment of the school.

I liaised with my colleagues throughout my lesson planning to ensure that I made full use of the college’s extensive resources and to guarantee that students are well prepared for examinations. The additional responsibility of being emergency cover meant that I was required to work well under pressure in order to deliver lessons of a consistent high standard to all levels of learners.   I prepared students for academic life through creating and adapting suitable course materials, setting assessments, and using course-specific descriptors to monitor progress. I gained EAP experience working on the Year Round Pre-Sessional programme, and later I worked on the BEES project as a Business English tutor and on the Preparatory English programme as an academic skills tutor.

  English Tutor and Module Coordinator

  I am currently working at Glasgow International College on the Preparatory English and English for Academic Purposes programmes. The former involves working with students to improve their language skills in all areas, using a range of course books and authentic materials. The latter focuses the students on the academic language which will be required of them when they proceed to the University of Glasgow. In addition to this, I also work as a Learning Support Tutor, and deliver one-to-one tutorials to students throughout their academic programme at Glasgow International College. This allows students to receive individualised support in their studies in a way which is not possible in a classroom environment.A team promotion has given me the additional responsibility of Module Coordinator on the Applied Learning programme. This involves preparing and reviewing resources to be used by all tutors in Glasgow International College. This position carries a high level of responsibility, and requires the ability to work to deadlines and problem solve effectively. Show less
