  The Times & Star is a weekly newspaper that reports on the news and sport in West Cumbria. I began as a news reporter and was promoted to chief sports writer in 2014. I was tasked with writing, sub-editing and laying out stories for the Times & Star. In addition, I was the Workington Reds football reporter for the News & Star, the company’s main daily newspaper.Key achievements:• Progressing from a junior news reporter to the chief sports writer.• Working on a variety of sports stories, including events in football, speedway, rugby league, athletics and motorsport.• Developing my sub-editing skills by editing all submitted sports stories.• Developing key contacts in order to secure exclusive stories.Responsibilities:• Being the main point of contact on the sports desk and in charge of the newspaper’s sports coverage.• Sourcing and writing daily stories about Workington Reds football club and the Workington Comets speedway team for the News & Star.
