    • Reunite Dias

      Dec 2015 - now
      Reunite Dias Team Rallier

Amy was called into action by the Universe to rescue a cat separated from his family on the shore of Lesbos island, Greece. With the support of several other volunteers (including Ashley Anderson), he was taken to an island veterinarian and brought to the apartment Amy rented throughout the duration of her volunteer work on the island. Amy decided to foster him in her rented apartment for a little more than one month while looking for a foster family to bring him to in Germany (where the majority of refugees coming through Lesbos ended up passing through.) During this time, she recruited Michelle Nhin to assist with social media outreach from Oklahoma, and together Amy, Ashley and Michelle launched a grassroots search for his family. In February of 2016, Dias's family was located in Norway. Photojournalist Doug Kuntz was recruited by Amy to travel from Greece to Germany and pick-up Dias (who's real name was Kunkush, which means "fluffy" in Arabic) and bring him to Norway to be reunited with his family. The team coordinated with the Guardian to have a videographer onsite to document the reunion. The Guardian video has since been viewed more than 19,000,000 times. The campaign generated worldwide media attention. This story been featured on almost every social blog in the world, including, Mashable, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, BBC Outlook, Malaysian and Korean radio networks, and a Japanese show called "Unbelievable." There is currently a children's picture book being produced to help educate kids about the reality of the refugee migration crisis as experienced by Kunkush. Show less
