  Team Leader AM Core TechnologiesAdditive Manufacturing DepartmentI was leading a team of four engineers responsible for selection, integration (mechanical, electrical, PLC/NC), commissioning and calibration of LMD components (laser unit, process optics, powder feeder, process sensors, ...) in our AML machines, and for the development of new LMD specific AML machine features.As team leader I was participating in the definition of our R&D roadmap, and responsible for budget and manpower planning, as well as supervision of the development projects my team worked on.My team successfully developed several major mechatronics products targetting LMD process setup automation that were showcased on the Formnext 2024 exhibition. We developed (mechanical, electrical, PLC/NC, software) modules for machine integrated automated nozzle changing, automated nozzle alignment, powder-mass-flow calibration, nozzle condition monitoring, and multi-material-switching, as well as our own nozzle body and tips.On the technical side I contributed on- PLC/NC integration of LMD components and new products in our Sinumerik ONE controller using TIA Portal- Product data management of LMD components in SAP- Product development (mechanical, electrical, PLC/NC, software, testing) of our powder-mass-flow calibration module- Process monitoring and control system development and testing using various sensors (IR- and visible light cameras, pyrometer, powder-mass-flow sensor)- LMD components commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting in our AML machines- Supporting my team where necessaryOur new product developments are highlighted herehttps://www.linkedin.com/posts/makino-additivemanufacturing-coe_discover-the-makino-aml900-advantage-activity-7264838142673731584-IDET?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop Show less International Innovation Centre AM (IIC-AM)I was part of a team that upgraded a 5-axis milling machine with a Sinumerik 840d sl controller into a High-Speed Laser Metal Deposition machine, in collaboration with Fraunhofer ILT.My work scope included- Integration (electrical, PLC/NC) and commissioning / calibration of LMD components (laser unit, process optics, powder feeder, process sensors, ...)- Parameterization of the controller's NC unit for high-speed 5-axis operation and high-speed laser signal switching- 5-axis drive system tuning and kinematic measurement- CAM post-processor development in python for ModuleWorks LAM- CAD/CAM programming for 5-axis LMD processes using ModuleWorks LAM and self-made python 5-axis tool path generator scripts- Process and application development in LMD and HS-LMD, including metallurgical analysis- Exploration of camera-based process monitoring (system design, image acquisition and processing, data analysis in python)- Presentation of the machine towards customers, internal and external stakeholders Show less
