"The effect of heat treatment on the embrittlement of dissimilar welded joints"For my doctoral project, I adopted a combined modelling and experimental approach in the optimisation of heat-treatments in dissimilar welds for subsea applications. My work furthered the understanding of hydrogen-embrittling phenomena that results in failure of subsea weldments. The project involved a number of techniques, such as Electron microscopy (SEM, TEM and FIB-SEM), nanoindentation testing, slow strain rate environmental tensile and bend testing, neutron diffraction residual stress measurements, and diffusion/thermodynamic modelling using dictra and thermocalc. • TWI

      Jan 2014 - now

I am a member of the stainless steels and non-ferrous alloys section, within TWI's Materials Group. My responsibilities include the management of multiple single-client and group sponsored technical projects. I oversee the delivery of high quality research, from metallurgical failure investigations to academic projects in collaboration with UK universities.I have a particular interest in hydrogen embrittlement of subsea dissimilar joints (low alloy steels-austenitics), but I also work with a range of materials, from stainless steels through to nickel based alloys.
