    • Howards Storage World

      Nov 2006 - Dec 2010
      Company Store Training Manager

This position originally entailed managing a large staff of 20 in the Howards Flagship store. As the majority of Howards stores are franchised, Howards Company Store Managers are expected to run their stores independently, with minimal input from Group Office. This developed a sense of ownership and responsibility and meant all areas of the business were controlled by the Store Manager. As the training store, all new franchisees and managers worked with me for between 3 weeks and 6 weeks. This included training in all aspects of running and managing a successful store, from operational aspects- how to recruit staff, inventory, rostering etc, to business analysis- profit and loss, business plans, marketing etc to leading a strong team- coaching staff, appraisals and how to give constructive feedback. The role of Company Store Training Manager involved a varied range of responsibilities. This was a new role, developed around my skill set and the growth of the company stores. I developed Induction programs for new managers and workbooks for use throughout their practical training. This position necessitated visiting new managers in their workplaces throughout Australia, to help them settle into their role, as well as role modelling the required behaviours and being on call to help them work through difficult situations.Responsibilities of Company Store Training and Development Manager:• Managing training of all managers and staff of 24 Company Stores across Australia• Creating all training theory for managers including induction, sales training and leadership courses• Facilitate training courses for groups of up to 12 and oversee ongoing use of training• Mentoring new managers and assistant managers during first three months of employment and then ongoing coaching to continue development• Progression planning with management to train staff into new roles Show less

    • Scentre Group (Owner and Operator of Westfield in Aus and NZ)

      Nov 2010 - Dec 2014
      Retail Manager

This role entailed Centre Managing several different Westfield Centres whilst the Manager was on leave, often for several months. It involved all aspects in managing a major shopping centre including overseeing all divisions- Facilities and Landscaping, Risk, Security and Marketing as well as chairing all tenancy coordination meetings. It was in this role that I gained a deeper understanding of all operational aspects of managing a business with responsibility of returning the budgeted NOI.The Retail Manager position at Westfield involved consulting to retail owners and managers to increase turnover in their store. Including visual merchandising standards, brand awareness, operational aspects and training of staff members. In conjunction with my retail consultation duties I also oversaw the day to day operations of the centre. My key accountabilities as Centre Manager/ Retail Manager were:• Overseeing P&L to review expenditure and increase profit• Leading and coaching all managers in the centre• Liaising with the Design and Construction team, Retail Design Manager and Tenancy Coordinator to ensure all retailer fitouts were completed on time and to design• Creating a business plan and budget for the centre• Retail consultation with tenants to increase their business knowledge and therefore turnover• Recruitment and performance management of all staff including management team• Developing innovative ideas to increase incremental income for the centre• Project Manager of Westfield Head Office “Innovation Team” which was made up of members from different centres and Head Office divisions. This included the development of mobile phone charging stations in food courts, new self-service gift card kiosks and the implementation of roaming Concierge staff with mobile gift card sales.• Liaised with local companies to increase sales in the Westfield Corporate Gift Card, leading to a contract of $2 million, the highest contract achieved in Westfield’s history.
