      Oct 2017 - Dec 2017
      German Language Assistant

As a non-native German speaker, I was honored to be permitted the opportunity to serve as a language assistant for several 400-level German courses at the University of Nottingham. A small group of exchange students from Germany were invited to sit in on advanced German classes and speak with English students, advising them on grammar and syntax, reminding them of vocabulary, providing feedback on expression usage, and generally creating an environment to encourage relaxed conversation in German. I immensely enjoyed working with the University of Nottingham in this capacity. Show less

    • Quentic

      Apr 2018 - Sept 2022

As the sole in-house English translator at Quentic, I worked cross-departmentally to provide high-quality English translations on topics ranging from the highly technical (corporate legal compliance, hazardous chemical management, occupational safety, white papers, release notes and other specialized software and IT content) to the creative (marketing materials, commercial copy and social media outreach). I had a hand in much of the English-language content produced at Quentic during my employment. I also took the initiative to translate all of Quentic's internal documentation into English, which enabled the company to begin to onboard colleagues who were highly skilled and did not (yet) speak German. In addition, I managed the US and UK English product interfaces and corresponding user assistance features (which included short, in-software guidance and a separate user-help database with long-form articles). I localized EHS content for both UK/Europe and North America, which involved extensive terminological research, attaining a thorough grasp of the intricacies of American and European systems, an in-depth understanding of occupational safety and related topics, familiarity with various software (Office Suite, Phrase Strings, JIRA, Confluence, Joomla, etc.), and occasional HTML and photo editing. I am incredibly happy to have been able to work with Quentic for so long, and I am proud of the contributions I made towards the German company's internationalization efforts and overall presence in the English-speaking market. I learned a great deal and developed many skills working here, and above all I think Quentic has a great mission and look forward to watching the company continue to grow and flourish. Show less As a student working part-time at Quentic, I created high-quality English translations and edited existing texts with the goal of making the English content more readable and enticing. I handled a variety of texts, ranging from highly technical user instructions and in-product assistance to the language used in the software itself. Additionally, I translated and proofread documents pertinent to internal communications, marketing campaigns, product releases and other content for a variety of departments. Show less
