    Senior Technical Specialist at Sphera

  • Education

    • McGill University

      2008 - 2011
Bachelor's degree Microbiology and Immunology 3.5
    • McGill University - Macdonald Campus

      2011 - 2013
      Master's degree Parasitology 3.75

Very redundant: I was researching and comparing planarian digestive proteins and also trying to set up a phylogenetic model. I cloned, expressed and characterized recombinant proteins in the yeast model P. pastoris.

    • McGill University - Macdonald Campus

      2013 - 2016
      Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Parasitology

Activities and Societies: MCSS Representative for MCGSS Department Representative for the Institute of Parasitology Let's Talk Science volunteer I'm investigating two distinct possible mechanisms of resistance in the parasitic nematode H. contortus. My project involves studying P-glycoprotein ABC transporters and extensive genetics.

    • Jolicoeur & Associés

      Jun 2009 - Aug 2009
      Surveyor

I called randomly assigned people from all over Canada to survey them on their drug and alcohol use for Health Canada. I had a great answer:decline ratio in the company and received bonuses.I also interviewed people for Radon tests and Engineers for their professional availabilities.

    • CEGEP - John Abbott College

      Sept 2009 - Jun 2010
      Chemistry Tutor

I worked as a Chemistry tutor and helped other peer students at the time in their studies of chemistry, both theoretical and laboratory-wise. This was done in drop-in fashion.

    • McGill University

      Jun 2010 - Aug 2010
      Research Assistant

I worked in a microbiology lab trying to clone the sequence specific to the origin of replication of the fermentor bacteria Zymomonas mobilis.

    • McGill University

      Jun 2011 - Jan 2016

I worked as a teaching assistant for both an Introduction to biochemistry course (200 level) and an Introduction to Food Chemistry course (200 level). For the introductory biochemistry course, I prepared review sessions weekly and mass-review sessions prior to exams to guide and help students in their understanding of biochemistry and chemistry. I also replaced the professor when needed and taught the lectures. Additionally, I reviewed exams and tests ahead of time to gauge their difficulty and feasibility. I had also written some exam questions for students at times. For the introduction to food chemistry course, I mainly took care of the laboratory sessions in both preparatory sessions (to ensure that all students understood what was being done), setting up the laboratory classes (ingredients, chemicals, tools, quizzes) but also the laboratory safety training to ensure that no student would get injured. I supervised the laboratories and always gave a hand to students in need. I had also taught some classes when the professor required it (mainly food spoilage, immunity and diseases). Show less I'm investigating two distinct possible mechanisms of resistance in the parasitic nematode H. contortus. My project will essentially involve identifying a target ABC transporter in H. contortus, clone and express it in a mamallian cell line (LLC-PK1) and also characterizing it in terms of biochemistry and genetics. In addition, I will investigate the possible morphological differences between the resistant and susceptible strains of H. contortus and try to understand the underlying mechanism behind it. Show less I worked on two novel cysteine protease genes discovered in the free-living planarian M. lignano. I discovered the genes in an EST database, phylogenetically linked them with their parasitic cousins (S. mansoni and F. hepatica), cloned and characterized their translated proteins.Using various bioinformatics techniques, I devised accurate pseudo-monoclonal polyclonal antibodies specific to my proteins and purified them using a column.Once the proteins were produced, I characterized them biochemically and obtained their Km and Kcat for various substrates and also evaluated their Ki for various peptidase inhibitors. Regulatory & Hazard Communication Specialist

Worked as a Regulatory & Hazard Communication Specialist. Using my chemistry skills at their finest in order to help our clients write internationally compatible safety datasheets (SDS) to sell their products. Whether they are resins, paints, pharmaceutical drugs or even the simplest of solvents, we can help you understand your region's (or other regions') regulations and the appropriate chemical checks and bounds.

As a senior technical specialist, I take care of fulfilling ticket requests and help our customers with our proprietary software and help them out with any regulatory questions they may have. Working synergistically with other departments to solve problems and focus on the client for the best outcomes.Occasionally contribute to training, recordings and blogging. Currently working for Sphera, the new force on the market, as a Regulatory & Hazard Communication Specialist. I have worked as a tutor for many years with several students in both drop-in sessions and recurrent appointments.I have taught high school students to CEGEP students to University students (ages 13 to 25).I worked together with students on mathematics (high school level, calculus, statistics), chemistry (high school, physical chemistry, chemistry of solutions, biochemistry and organic chemistry I & II) and physics (high school, mechanics, magnetism and light/waves). I have also had experience in teaching introductory economics and psychology.I have also worked with students on learning to speak/read/write French and English at all levels in addition to helping them understand and literature. I have also had a lot of experience with children with learning disabilities, ranging from mild reading-disabilities to ADD/ADHD.Tutoring always brings me joy as the students spark interest, understanding and greater intuition on complex subjects.
