  The DofE is an award for young people consisting of four sections: volunteering, skills, physical and an expedition. The award gave me confidence and developed my life skills through taking you out of your comfort zone and into a place where you’ll push yourself whilst having amazing new experiences. Skills such as confidence, resilience, building friendship and responsibility were gained. It was a great chance for personal developement.

I assisted the small business to grow through advertising on social media such as Facebook and recommendation through referral and competitive pricing building their clientele. Business expansion ultimately helped the business reinvest in products and services increasing its client base

  Work Placement

  Working in an office environment gave me an insight into possible career prospects. The company is a flagship and leader in the market for technology such as spacecraft, defence armoury, medical and science equipment, the variety is vast. The finance section I shadowed showed how finance is dealt with globally between firms and customers. This provided the added benefited of highlighting strong business acumen applied by a large successful corporate firm.

  Crew Trainer

  Gained many skills working in such a renowned company which I was quickly promoted to a Crew Trainer role. This role will help give me a sense of responsibility and ownership in the workplace and a better understanding of how to manage staff and resolve customer issues. The role has taught me that determination and hard work is always recognised and rewarded. During busy periods I had the responsibility to look after crew and ensure everyone was allocated work whilst being efficient. This role improved my confidence and organisation skill aiding me for any future work. Show less

  Grant Thornton Work Experience

  I attended Grant Thornton's two week work experience programme which gave me an insight to what it is like working as an Auditor, both Commercial and Public sector and a Tax adviser. I read through and corrected financial statements, used different forms of software. I also had to conduct a presentation bringing all the knowledge I had gathered in the two weeks together which not only built my confidence but also improved my presentation and analysis skills.
