      The VKI is perfoming many activities on laminar boundary layer transition, focused on very high speed flows and veichle reentry. They developed a set of tools in Matlab to predict and study this phenomenon. This code is mainly based on numerical computation of a stability analysis founded on the LST, PSE and Bi-Global equations. My task was mainly to introduce a regression test and to remove some inconsistency from the code.

      M.Sc. Thesis

      The Thesis project is placed in the framework of the ESA initiative Design For Demise for a sustainable development of Earth's orbit. In the context of D4D an accurate knowledge of the gas-surface interaction phenomena is required. My role at von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics is to better investigate these phenomena in the particular case of opaque materials such as silica or graphite. This is done first developing a coupling strategy between a material response code and a compressible chemical reacting boundary layer code and then setting up a consistent test campaign in the VKI Induced Coupled Wind Tunel : the Plasmatron. Comparison between numerical simulation and experimental data will allow to measure the accuracy of the proposed modeling. Show less
