Under general supervision of the battalion chief, I provided direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, hazmat and other incidents. Additionally, as a Firefighter/Paramedic I responded to medical emergencies and provided prehospital advanced life support ACLS care to victims of injury and or illness. As the first and highest trained healthcare provider on the scene of emergency situations, I make medical decisions based on standing orders, protocols and orders from on-line and off-line medical direction. Further responsibilities were to protect life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials and fire prevention duties as well as maintain fire equipment, apparatus and facilities. Also held supervisory duty for multiple FIRE/EMS staff, with accountability for; policy and procedure enforcement as well as department and station expenditures, facility and equipment inspection, personnel training, and performance evaluations. Regularly coordinated with supervisors (Deputy Chief/ Chief of the Department) in monthly meetings to assure goals were efficiently and effectively met; and developed strategic plan for department with an emphasis on growth. Jan 2005 - Jan 2010
      Firefighter / Paramedic 2

As a firefighter-paramedic, my responsibilities included responding immediately to 911 calls. As the first and highest trained healthcare provider on the scene of emergency situations, I collaborate with firefighters, police, and other first responders in evaluating the situation and determine the need for additional resources. I attended emergencies ranging from minor injuries to severe casualties arising from accidents, fires, natural disasters, criminal violence, and other incidents. My primary duty was to properly assess the patient’s condition and to quickly determine the course of action necessary to stabilize the patient or patients. If the scene required my actions as a firefighter, I assessed the scene to determine the need for additional resources, and proper method of attack to protect life and property while following NFPA guidelines. Called in my report to other responding fire units and established command until such time I could pass command to the next highest ranking fire officer to respond. Often times, my responsibilities were to be the first firefighter to make entry, to control and extinguish the fire, and to search for victims trapped who required rescue. Show less
