      Intern

      I worked on the NOAA and NASA Joint Global Hawk Project researching hurricanes and using monitoring technologies to observe them. I analyzed wind, precipitation, and other meteorological factors to forecast hurricane development trends. Additionally, I identified data inconsistencies collected from newly-developed technologies onboard the unmanned aircrafts observing the storms.

      I worked on installing and maintaining habitats for native bees on local farms by building relationships with farmers and other experts, becoming familiar with land use on small farms, and being trained in native bee management. I also wrote a thesis in collaboration with this lab in which I interviewed and surveyed farmers, farm advisors, and other stakeholders to better understand the barriers farmers faced when implementing native bee habitats. I received a grant from CuriOdyssey for this conservation and research project. Show less

      I worked on the Campus Corps 100% Committed Campaign that aimed to build a network of student leaders across the nation working to drive the shift to clean, renewable energy. In this role, I identified and recruited key people nationally to work with to transition their college campus to 100% renewable energy. I supported over a dozen interns through weekly communication and training development.

      In this position, I led outreach and partnerships for our campus’ Student Organic Garden (SOGA). This entailed managing social media, email communications, and website updates as well as coordinating workshops, tours, and other events. I facilitated a class in which I taught a students how to prepare, establish, and tend to a garden using organic practices using the framework of the local food justice movement. I helped create the syllabus and plan the course for this class as well.

      Conservation Intern

      I worked on a campaign to raise awareness about Community Choice Aggregations, which is an option for communities to have a locally-run, more cost-efficient and sustainable energy provider option. I outreached to local community leaders, student leaders, businesses, and organizations in San Francisco County, Marin County, Contra Costa County, and Alameda County and helped inform them about opting in to their local provider.

      I worked to increase food and housing security on campus by raising awareness of these issues students face and helping provide information on existing resources. I facilitated educational events such as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Nutrition Week, and Mental Health Awareness Week, as well as facilitated student government workshops to help student leaders better understand and address these issues. I coordinated food deliveries, expanded food recovery efforts, and created pop-up food pantries, as well as collaborated with campus partners to address food insecurity for students.

      In this appointed position, I designed and implemented our campus’ first Environmental Justice green grant cycle. I also held proposals accountable to principles of environmental justice, equity, and inclusion, and voted on which projects would get funded. I attended the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) to speak on everything we learned throughout this process to help other campus’ attending to do the same. I planned and coordinated campus-wide events for Earth Week (April 16th-20th) to raise awareness of environmental initiatives and organizations. I spearheaded organizing Environmental Justice events for the week by outreaching to and collaborating with environmental, sustainability, and justice focused-groups.

      I led and facilitated both traditional summer camp groups from ages 8-17 as well as leadership development groups for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, foster care groups, and social justice organizations. During the traditional summer camp groups I supervised campers overnight and facilitated activities such as archery, swimming, kayaking, campfires, ropes courses and skits.       I interviewed and recruited over a dozen student organizers nationwide who were interested in leading environmental justice campaigns on their campus. I supported interns by conducting weekly check ins to set plans and develop campaign strategies, developing educational materials and trainings, and evaluating their progress and any feedback. In addition, I led communications efforts, built our online organizing databases, and revamped our social media in order to increase engagement within the program.       I supported students and volunteers to get out the vote to flip the Virginia State House and Senate in the November 2019 elections, which were critical with the redistricting of Virginia that was being planned and the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment on the line. I developed organizational campaign plans and event calendars for targeting outreach to key Virginia districts as well as created candidate endorsement materials for voter distribution.       I was a part of the SustainUS Delegation to the World Bank 2019 Annual Meetings from October 13th – 19th to advocate for climate justice. I prepared for for conversations with World Bank leadership on their oil and gas investments by researching World Bank investments, development finance policy, and multilateral bank history. I also helped build coalitions with international environmental groups and frontline communities.       In this position, I provided research support to inform the Committee’s Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America. I helped facilitate the Committee's own hearings, briefings, and policy roundtables on environmental and climate change topics. In addition, I compiled documents and materials to assist in the final publication of hearing transcripts at the Government Publishing Office.       I outreached to voters to re-elect Tina Smith as their U.S. Senator in Minnesota. In this role, I collaborated with local candidates, organizations, and campuses to ensure Senator Smith had a strong presence across Minnesota and I recruited and empowered volunteers to outreach to their communities.
