Key activities were gathering requirements from the client, translating those requirements to the product, and listening to their feedback for improvement. The system was hosted on Apache, written in PHP, accessed data stored in Oracle 8i, and made extensive use of JavaScript in the user interface. The system was eventually rolled out to the entire company's sales force to be used as a tool to improve sales. Show less

      Apr 2004 - Oct 2004
      Consultant

I worked on a data warehouse system where I was involved in gathering requirements, fine-tuning the design, developing the ETL routines, and meeting reporting requirements. The data warehouse consisted of two primary dimensions - a primary fact table containing over 90 million records, several additional dimensions and fact tables, and several staging tables. I developed ETL procedures in PL/SQL to load transmission data from 11 different sources and process the data through five phases of evaluation. Data elements were extracted from the warehouse at each phase, sent to groups in the company for evaluation, and the evaluation results were then loaded back into the warehouse. I also designed several Cognos Impromptu reports and contributed to presentations made to a government agency using the final evaluation results of the data processed in the warehouse. Show less

      Dec 2004 - Sept 2005
      Consultant

I was the lead developer for a project to integrate daily enterprise data for a newly acquired business into a field reporting data warehouse, including requirements gathering, design and development. I also worked with the Business Objects developers to design and create universes available to end users.I did a brief stint on a project to load vision insurance claims data from an online claims system into a data warehouse environment. I identified and resolved several major coding errors in the ETL routines and made changes resulting in a nearly 50% improvement in performance. For the above projects, I was key in helping Luxottica use the open source bug tracking system Mantis (http://www.mantisbt.org/) to help the development team track issues during the development cycle.
