      Sept 2001 - Sept 2005
      Outdoor Pursuits Instructor

Duties: Instructing, leadership, maintaining high health and safety standards, team work.• As an outdoor instructor I was a part of a team that worked very closely together and was required to uphold the highest of safety standards in our day to day work. This was a great opportunity to learn to rely on and trust team mates as well as learning the necessary skills to lead members of the team in certain situations.• Once every two months I would have the role of coordinating the incoming group that week. I would plan, organise and make sure the week went according to plan and to the group’s specifications.• In order to ensure a safe working environment at all times whilst instructing activities, the ability to communicate effectively as part of a team in extreme situations was vital. The ability to avoid or mitigate risks in all situations was an integral part of my role. Show less

Duties: Carrying out NDT (Non Destructive Testing) inspection on pipework and steel structure using rope access.• I am currently based at the St Fergus gas plant working on a structural integrity project.• My main duties are: carrying out non destructive testing (mainly using Ultrasonic Inspection) while utilising different rope access techniques when required; accurately following written and verbal instructions as to the precise location of the desired test point and the required method of testing. Followed by a written report when required.• Assessment of the worksite and the work scope to be carried out in order to minimise or mitigate, wherever possible, the risk of injury or harm to myself or others. If a job cannot be done safely, then it cannot be done until a safe solu-tion is found.• An integral part of my role is to be constantly aware of safety. Adhering to and taking ownership of the clients health and safety procedures and plans, whether at a busy and potentially dangerous worksite or within the accommoda-tion module, is vitally important. I have experience working within TAQA’s Intelligent Safety programme and Shell’s Mind Safety programme. Show less
