  As an intern at Sri Ramachandra Medical College , we were trained in the following medical departments : GENERAL MEDICINE - In depth knowledge on Diagnosis and management of basic diseases such as Diabetes meillitus , Hypertension , Viral and Bacterial infection. Cardiovascular diseases such as Congestive heart failure , myocardial infarction. Respiratory illness such as TB , Asthma , pleural effuson , COPD. Gastro intestinal pathology such as Pancreatitis , Liver Cirrhosis. We were also trained in procedures such as pleural tap , ascitic tap , lumbar puncture and nasogastric intubation. GENERAL SURGERY - Trained in basic surgical skills such as wound debridement , suturing , excision and drainage . Assisted in minor surgeries such as amputation , and hydrocoele . Assisted in major surgeries such as direct and indirect hernia repair, Gastrectomy , Whipple's procedure , varicose vein etc . ORTHOPAEDICS - Trained in basic trauma assessment and management , identification of fractures and immediate management .OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY : In depth knowledge on Prenatal and Postnatal care . Routine investigations to be performed for health status evaluation of pregnant women . Routinely conduct normal vaginal delivery and assist in Caesarian section.PAEDIATRICS : Newborn care and assessment . Management of common paediatric illness.EMERGENCY AND TRAUMA : Developed skills in management of trauma and resuscitation . Training in BLS and ACLS (Certified by the American Heart Association)COMMUNITY MEDICINE : Worked in rural public health centres .
