    • NC Department of Justice

      Jan 2000 - now

➡️ Currently, I am the lead curriculum developer for ongoing overhaul of the state’s BLET curriculum. ➡️ From 2002-2018, I helped deliver the state's train-the-trainer certification courses for Specialized Subject Control & Arrest Techniques (SCAT) and Physical Fitness instructors (SPFIT). Both SCAT and SPFIT courses are Commission mandated, two-weeks long, and only offered 3-4 times per year. Participants who successfully complete these courses become certified instructors for the State of North Carolina. I also served on the SCAT and SPFIT curriculum committees. Show less ➡️ Oversaw research, development, and implementation of state-mandated 17-week Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET or POST) certification curriculum. To do this, I collaborated with 300+ stakeholders and practitioners for 37 individual lessons; developed practical skill exercise scripts and testing instruments; provided technical assistance to 50+ training academies throughout North Carolina; chaired BLET Advisory Group; reported research findings; and advised the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Commission.➡️ My passion for content development, training, and use of force collided while working at the NC Justice Academy. The Garner Police Department would be the capstone for bringing things together at the command level. FORCE Concepts was beginning to take form. Show less
