As the inaugural band teacher at Green Street Academy, I taught 7th grade scholars to read musical notation, appreciate and analyze music of all genres, and work together to play body percussion, bucket drumming, and recorder pieces. In addition, some scholars learned to play flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion in a whole group setting. After school, I taught private piano and drumset lessons, conducted the GSA drumline, and started an after-school wind band named by students as the Lightning Bolts Band. To showcase our student performers, I worked with the fine arts team to organize bi-annual fine arts night performances. The Lightning Bolts Band and GSA drumline also performed at numerous school events as well as the Best of Maryland Arts Education Festival. To support the program, I collected over 70 instrument donations, over $5,000 in monetary donations for supplies and instrument repairs. I organized field trips to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and guest performances and workshops with the Lyric Opera, Austin Antoine, and Ballet Nouveau. I also recruited and oversaw volunteers to work with students both during the day and after school. Show less As the 7th/8th grade math teacher at KASA Baltimore College Preparatory, I developed and implemented lessons to teach and supplement the 7th & 8th grade Agile Mind math curriculum, proctored MSA, PARCC, NOVA, and iReady testing, and planned and led field trips to the Walter’s Art Museum, the United States Capitol, University of Maryland, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, and Dave and Busters. As the 8th Grade Team Leader, I facilitated weekly 8th grade team meetings and student council meetings, planned monthly PBIS reward activities, and planned and led field trips to places including the Baltimore Museum of Industry, American Visionary Arts Museum, University of Maryland, Center Stage, and the Maryland Science Center. I also applied for and won a $700 Target field trip grant so our students could go on a Living Classrooms expedition. As the middle school track coach, I led practices after school, taught athletes about running, stretching, and nutrition, and led and assisted our two team managers. In the spring, student athletes completed their first 5K race. Show less
