  • About me

    President of Polite Engineering, LLC

  • Education

    • Lehigh University

      2011 - 2015
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Civil Engineering

Activities and Societies: Track and Field, Gymnastics Club I was a division I athlete and a two-time member of the all Patriot Team. I became involved in the gymnastics club. I was part of a consulting project as the Civil Engineer, developing a feasible yet aesthetically appealing design for Lehigh University’s outdoor track bathroom and storage facility.

  • Experience

    • PennDOT

      May 2013 - Aug 2013
      Intern

In the Lehigh County Traffic Control office, I directed the production of weight limit signs for trucks over bridges and created detour routes for all bridges in six counties. In the Permits department, I ensured the completion of pending projects. Some projects included telephone pole reinforcement, water pipe replacement and UGI gas pipe reconstruction.

    • Lehigh University Iacocca Internships

      Jul 2014 - Aug 2014
      Researcher

I researched the safety and production of high speed railways around the world. While doing so, I developed a preliminary design to redirect impact on train cars during collision. I was also able to further immerse myself in the Chinese language and culture.

    • Lightweight Design, Inc

      Jan 2015 - Dec 2016
      Structural Engineer

As a structural engineer at Lightweight Design, my responsibilities include the design and analysis of steel and aluminum frames. This includes structures to be erected internationally as well, specifically in China. A typical design with analysis includes determining design loads based on the location of the structure and navigating the ASCE7, IBC, and equivalent Chinese standards for appropriate reduction factors. The structure is modeled into a structural analysis program under said factored design loads with preliminary member sizes. I then use a Mathcad sheet that I’ve created to incorporate all rules of the material, whether it be from the steel or aluminum design manual, to streamline strength analysis. If necessary, optimization of sizes occur by returning to the structural analysis program then Mathcad and changing the sizes and calculations of the members appropriately. As this company deals exclusively with fabric paneled structures, aluminum extrusions called keder tracks may need to be designed using AutoCAD as it is essential for fabric installation. Show less

    • Whitney Bailey Cox & Magnani, LLC

      Jan 2017 - Mar 2019
      Design Engineer

In the Building Structures department of the multidisciplinary Civil Engineering firm, WBCM, my responsibilities include the structural analysis of various projects that range with purpose, occupancy type, and size. As all projects are unique, I develop extensive experience with various material design, constantly gaining more knowledge about the many restraints from all different design specifications. I am also responsible for the supervision of some processes and installations during the construction phase on a project site. I am expected to discuss any structurally related inquiries from clients and make engineering judgments based on unforeseen circumstances during this phase as to mitigate potential complications of the site.
