      Summer Intern

During this internship I participated in wet lab research of epigenetic imprinting in the department of Newborn Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital under Eric Greer and Matthew Raska. I learned procedures including PCR, qPCR, CRISPR Cas9 targeted cleavage of DNA, primer synthesis for PCR, and gel electrophoresis. I also worked with mice which included tail clipping, ear tagging, and DNA extractions from tail samples.

Conducted wet-lab research concerning cell division under Tom Maresca at UMass Amherst. Studied the SAC checkpoint to determine how spindle attachment at the kinetochore acts as a control mechanism to allow or inhibit transition to anaphase. Provided one on one tutoring in physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and biochemistry at the Learning Resource Center at Umass Amherst.

      Summer intern in Neonatology

This summer program combined wet lab research in trans-generational epigenetics in the department of Newborn Medicine with clinical exposure in the NICU, high risk delivery room, infant follow up, and the center for healthy lung development. I shadowed doctors at Beth Israel medical center, Boston Children's hospital, and Brigham and Women's hospital. We studied current patients in the NICU, and learned to identify common premature conditions and treatments. In the lab, I worked with radioactivity, RNA extractions, C.elegans, and mice. I also gained experience with various other lab procedures and techniques such as cell culture, protein gels, and chloroform DNA extractions. Show less
