      Co-Chair

I am a leader of a non-profit organization which works to give books to kids who live below the poverty level in King County. For the past two year I helped build a strong board with clear norms, values, clear goals, and a strategic plan of getting even more books to kids in the coming years ahead. In just the past two years First Book-Seattle went from being considered a "new" board that only raised $10,000 a year to one of the top 15 advisory boards in the country (out of thousands of other advisory boards). In the year 2014, the board raised enough to give over 12,000 books to kids AND earned a truckload of 40,000 books by getting more recipient groups to sign up. I also led efforts for the first adult fundraiser night ever called the Glassybaby Night of Giving and organized many other fundraising events, story times, and book give aways. I also helped with the grant cycle and visited many schools in the King County region where we partnered with teachers and program leaders to get books directly into the hands of children who need them most. Graduate of the Doctorate of Education Leadership Program

I just received my Doctorate of Education Leadership and Principal Certification at Seattle University. I am seeking more knowledge on how to change the world, one family, one teacher, and one child at a time through informing, empowering, and inspiring parents, educators, and the greater community in my writing and consulting work. My passion lies in social and emotional learning, the parent/teacher connection, and family literacy by helping families raise readers and writers, increasing the teacher/family relationship, and most of all, creating lifelong learners. Aug 2014 - Jun 2015
      Principal Intern

I am currently in the Administration Program in the College of Education at Seattle University. My internship site is at Clyde Hill Elementary within the Bellevue School District. In the Educational Administration program, I learn models of leadership and school improvement strategies through coursework and demonstrate these skills in the practicum and internship as I work with other professionals, students, and families.I also learn that service to others is at the heart of an educational leader’s role. The program emphasizes service as effective professional practice in collaboration with other professionals, learners and their families. We are grounded in the standards of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, the program provides a curriculum that is based on best practice and research. Students apply these models as they develop and implement a theory of action for school improvement. In recognition of the critical importance of preparing effective professionals for service to all children, the Program welcomes students who represent the diversity in our society. Finally, it is the ultimate mission of the program to prepare competent and ethical leaders who can demonstrate a positive impact on every learner. The program expects me and other graduates not only to be excellent professionals – but quality leaders, supportive colleagues, and articulate and effective advocates for their students’ needs. Associate Principal of the Early Childhood Division

As Associate Principal of the Early Childhood Division at Academia Cotopaxi American International School in Quito, Ecuador, I work collaboratively with our Early Childhood Divisional Principal, as a key educational leader in shaping this new division in line with our ambitious strategic plan. Enrollment in the Early Childhood grades is thriving, with two separate programs on two campuses, including 400 students ranging from 18 month-olds to Second Graders. Academia Cotopaxi is a solid international school that has been blessed with a long history of success, and this is an exciting time in its journey - an exciting transformation is taking place with the support of a very positive community, the implementation of a new strategic plan, solid enrollment, well-maintained facilities, and a positive reputation. I am excited to enjoy a warm and happy school, a supportive and forward-thinking leadership team, and an fill an important leadership role that has immediate impact, in one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world. • Livingston School District

      Jul 2017 - Jul 2018
      School Principal

As Principal of Winans Elementary and Director of Federal Programs for the Livingston School District I work closely with teachers, students, and families to create a culture of learning where the students are at the center. I believe education is not filling a pail, but lighting a fire. When we help our children feel safe and successful in a learning environment they can set their own goals and achieve them. Parents are the first and most important teachers and after that the teacher in the classroom has extreme influence over a child's drive, love for learning, and passion for school. We must do all we can to help ALL students learn and reach their potential no matter what the background. At Winans Elementary where we serve first and second graders, we have a huge responsibility to light that fire and support their first educational experiences in school to make them positive experiences. We come from a place of teaching and learning, of restorative practices, of integrating emotional and social teaching in every interaction we have with children. We also look at research based practices to form educated decisions about students' learning and our teaching. We are a collaborative team. We support one another and because of that students see amazing role models where ever they look who care deeply about them. We think critically about our own actions, our own words, and so our students do, too. Show less
