I am currently pursuing a major biology with minors in chemistry and public health, primarily taking courses related to microbiology and health science. In addition to science courses, following liberal arts tradition, I am encouraged to take classes outside my discipline such as philosophy to become a more well-rounded individual. Organizations such as Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue and MOVE have allowed me to engage with my local community in a uniquely special way. Saint Michael's College has shown me the value of networking and making connections with well-disciplined individuals from a variety of fields. Show less

      Ski Instructor

As a ski instructor at Loon Mountain Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire, I worked closely with young skiers from ages 3-13 over the course of a season-long program. I was responsible for reinforcing proper skills, managing behavior, and coordinating activities and contests. I became a Level I Member of the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) in 2017. Coaching has helped me not only develop the skills of leadership, organization, communication, but also collaboration and teamwork as it is always beneficial when instructors coordinated lesson plans together. • The University of Vermont Medical Center

      Feb 2021 - Feb 2022
      Cardiology Technician

As a Cardiology Technician at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, I was tasked with performing all inpatient EKGs when requested by an ordering physician. In addition to daily morning routines, I administered EKGs to patients after they had received antiarrhythmic medications such as Dofetilide. I was also a technician on the Rapid Response Team that would respond to any patient that was in acute critical condition. This experience allowed me to work independently and proficiently in highly intense situations. Being the only technician on shift able to administer EKGs to the inpatient residents of UVMMC created a fast-paced high-stress work environment that helped me refine skills such as time management, maintaining composure, and critical thinking. • Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services

      May 2022 - Aug 2023
      Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

Working on Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service as an AEMT Crew Chief and Driver has provided me with the unique experience of rural emergency medicine. Being a largely farm-based community, the acuity of calls is significantly higher than that of the surrounding towns. I have responded to and managed numerous cardiac arrests, motor vehicle accidents, and other critical calls all while communicating with other first responders, firefighters, and police. CVFRS also only runs two-person ambulance crews allowing me to work independently under pressure. Show less

    • Saint Michael's College

      Jun 2022 - May 2023

As a volunteer AEMT Crew Chief & Driver for Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue, I am responsible for providing direct care to trauma and medical patients during transit to the hospital. This experience has allowed me to develop skills such as teamwork, patience, and composure during stressful situations. As an Advanced EMT, I am trained in establishing IV and/or IO access, administering lifesaving medications, and leading a crew of about 2 to 3 other healthcare providers. In addition to physical care, I provide psychological first-aid (PFA) to ensure that the patient is as calm and comfortable as possible. My ability to provide PFA to the patient has allowed me to quickly develop a trusting relationship. I am also a member of the Training Committee, tasked with developing and running different continued-learning events for the rescue unit. Serving on the department has given me the opportunity to engage with my local community as we are the primary ambulance for 9 towns within Chittenden County, Vermont. In 2022, I had the privilege of representing the SMR with three of my peers at the NCEMSF Conference where we won first prize in the Advanced Life Support skills competition out of numerous other collegiate departments from all across the United States. Show less As a member of the Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience Research Group, I worked to investigate the effects of ethyl alcohol on microtubules. Studies have indicated that alcohol induces programmed cell death in the brains of mice, thus showing similar effects to alcohol-induced dementia in humans. One proposed mechanism has been observed in zebrafish embryos where ethanol has been shown to interrupt the integrity of microtubules. This internship has allowed me to learn and master laboratory techniques such as electron microscopy, vibratome sectioning, histological staining, and immunohistochemical labeling. Coupled with the technical skills I have mastered at the workbench, I have refined my ability to work as a member of a larger team. The positive community culture that has been formed in the laboratory is one that promotes intellectual curiosity, excitement in our work, and determination in the face of difficulty. Show less
